Site now live - iwillvolunteer
If someone came to you asked "can you make it work like YouTube?", how would you react? That was the brief for this adventurous web site, commissioned by Essex Council Council to showcase young people's experiences of volunteer work. They wanted a lively looking site, full of features to keep young people interested, and most of all wanted a comprehensive video system that would allow short video clips to be uploaded by the young people quickly and easily, managing all the additional information, and having those videos displayed beautifully in the web site, complete with a rating system and recommendations for similar videos. Tall order? Perhaps, but we agreed to it anyway!
We took on the challenge, and within just a few short months had the basic system up and running. The design, created by another designer, was handed to us to convert into a web template, and very soon the web site took shape. There were a few little niggles that took a while to sort out, such as making such a media-rich web site compatible with IE6, but the site finally went live in late January 2010, and Essex County Council are apparently very pleased with it!
So take a look round, sign up (for free), and watch the videos. iwillvolunteer.co.uk.
