Requirements
Take your time
It is important not to rush this stage in the process, as it is what we use to build your project's Estimate. The more accurate the requirements can be, the more likely it is that the Estimate will reflect the work that actually goes into creating your site, which means no nasty surprises when that final invoice comes in.
Where possible we like to meet our clients face-to-face for this initial meeting, as it makes building the requirements a little easier; it also means we get to meet each other, which is nice! Of course, if distance is a problem (we currently charge 40p per mile for travel expenses) we can do it all via e-mail and phone.
Things to consider
If you are thinking of getting in touch with us about your web site, here are some things to think about to get the process started:
- Who is your target audience? - Who do you want to notice your site, and how will that affect what goes in it? Potential customers? Existing customers? Employees?
- What is your budget? - If we know how much you can afford to spend we can tell you what is possible given those constraints.
- Do you need web hosting? - If you already have a domain name and some web space then we can use that (probably), but if not let us know and we can provide some for you.
- Do you have an established colour scheme or logo? - If so, we can build the site's design around that so that it fits into your existing corporate identity. If not, we can design that for you too.
- How often will the site need to be updated? - If it needs updating at all regularly (i.e. more than once a year) then we would definitely recommend a Content Management System.
- Who will be updating the site? - If you want to maintain the site yourself we can offer training to help you get the most out of your site.
- Can you write the content yourself? - If not, or if you would appreciate someone else looking over the content for you, we can help there too.
- What functionality should be included? - Do you need a discussion forum? Image gallery? News area / blog? Password protected areas? Online form submission?
